Grilled braised bacon was Katz’ dish for the event. You can view more photos on James Beard’s Facebook page.

Movie screenings at Bistrot La Minette

What better way to enjoy Chef Peter Woolsey’s cuisine at Bistrot La Minette than with a French movie in the courtyard?

Make reservations to sip the perfect glass of wine and nosh Flammenküche (Alsatian “pizza”, caramelized onion, lardons, crème fraîche) or the Gnocchi Gratinés au Fromage (French-style gnocchi, wild mushrooms, caramelized onions, Comté cheese) or the Cassoulet de Toulouse (Lamb stew, white beans, Toulouse sausage, duck confit).

The next two screenings offer up some laughs at the sticky situations amorous feelings may bring about:

July 26 and 29: Russian Dolls Although he hates the way his life has turned out, would-be writer Xavier (Romain Duris) has no one to blame but himself. So when an opportunity comes along that could change his luck, he knows he’d better not blow it. Audrey Tautou, Kelly Reilly, Cecile De France, Kevin Bishop, Evguenya Obraztsova, Irene Montale and Gary Love round out the ensemble cast in Cedric Klapisch’s sequel to his romantic comedy L’Auberge Espagnole.

August 2 and 5: Happily Ever After Writer, director and actor Yvan Attal trains his lens on the vicissitudes of love, marriage and monogamy in this crisp romantic comedy. Meanwhile, Georges (Alain Chabat) dreams of release from his constrictive marriage, and bachelor playboy Fred (Alain Cohen) longs for a committed relationship. This Sunday: Savor the Tastes of Victory at Restaurant Alba

Let your taste buds savor victory on Sunday, July 25 at 6 p.m. with a five-course menu prepared by Restaurant Alba’s chef/owner Sean Weinberg. Each course pairs a Victory beer.  As you enjoy the couplings Steve German, Victory’s VP, will elaborate the characteristics of each brew.

Chef Weinberg’s cooking tenure in the rural town of Alba in Italy’s Piedmonte region taught him the importance of keeping seasonality and locality in mind when developing dishes. It is this practice of using the ingredients on-hand daily that became the concept for his casually elegant dining experience.  He features hand-crafted, locally grown artisan foods simply prepared over the kitchen’s signature live fire wood-burning grill.

Menu:

Victory Lager will be served upon arrival

Watermelon Salad with Wood Grilled Feta Cheese, Fennel Roasted Chiles served with Sunrise Weise (German Hefe)

Seafood “Fritti Misti” served with Helios (Belgian Farmhouse)

Local Goat Cheese Ravioli, Lamb Ragu served with Summer Love (Golden Pale Ale with American Citra Hops German Hops)
