Best of Philly: Roast Pork Throwdown

Philadelphia Magazine hosted a public  Best of Philly tasting at The Shops of Liberty Place yesterday, and passersby were invited to cast their votes for one of the five roast pork sandwiches sampled. The Breslow Partners team was on the scene to participate in this taste test. After all, who better to judge such an important culinary throw down than one of Philly’s top culinary PR teams?  We sampled sandwiches by Paesano’s, DiBruno Brothers, McCrossen’s Tavern and Jake’s Sandwich Board. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it! We savored Jake’s slow roasted pork with smokey bacon. But it was their home-made sriracha sauce that turned up the heat on Jake’s sandwich.  McCrossen’s well-seasoned pork was pretty great too. It was simple, topped with melted cheese. Paesano’s featured their classic sammy, topped with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. And DiBruno Brothers, one of our all time favorites, was topped with sharp provolone and accompanied by fresh greens. Now, we could tell you which was our favorite, but we suggest you wait until August when Philly Mag’s Best of Philly issue hits the stands. That’s when you can read the results of this public tasting and cast your own vote. And by all means, let us know what you think. We guarantee, this is one contest you’re going to love judging.
