Tie up those running shoes and get ready to pace yourself. Sunday, May 4 marks the 35th annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run. The citywide event continues to grow in popularity as it boasted over 38,000 participants last year.
Runners World named the Broad Street Run as one of the fastest 10-mile courses in the country. The race begins at Central High School Athletic Field at the intersection of Broad Street and Somerville Avenue; the finish line reaches the Philadelphia Navy Yard at the end of Broad Street in South Philadelphia. The run is scenic and features sites along the way such as Temple University, City Hall, FDR Park, and the stadiums. Along the course, family and friends will be able to cheer loved ones on. Additional support comes from performances by local music groups, high school bands, and cheerleading squads.

After the race ends, runners should fuel up and revitalize their bodies. Lucky for them, Breslow Partners has already prepared a few recommendations:

Xfinity Live, located at 1100 Pattison Ave. in South Philadelphia, invites runners to recharge at their array of restaurants, such as PBR Bar & Grill and Victory Beer Hall. They feature long beer hall tables, outdoor seating, and for fun, a mechanical bull.

Other participants can head over to the Reading Terminal Market at 11th and Arch streets. In this food oasis, participants can enjoy DiNic’s famous roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwich that was crowned the best sandwich in America by the Travel Channel’s very own Adam Richman.

If you are craving an Asian inspired dish, a trip to Vietnam Restaurant in Chinatown will satisfy your hunger needs. The restaurant sits at 221 N. 11th St between Race and Vine streets. In 2005, Philadelphia Style named this Vietnamese haven the best restaurant in Chinatown.

This year’s participants can pick up their bib from the Pennsylvania Convention Center Hall A, on the following dates:

  • Friday, May 2, 2014 from 11- 7 P.M.
  • Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 9- 6 P.M.

Lastly, please remember that proper training for a 10-mile run is necessary. Two nights before the race, ensure a diet full of carbs. Before, during, and after the race, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Breslow Partners is extremely proud of all Broad Street Run participants. We wish you guys the best of luck. See you at the finish line!
