Center City Restaurant Week starts Sunday, August 2, 2015

Center City Restaurant Week starts this Sunday, have you made your reservations yet?  Unlike years past, Restaurant Week will be taking place in the first two weeks in August as opposed to late September.   Reasons behind this change include the Papal visit set for September, and to help boost summertime business according to Michelle Shannon, CCD’s Vice President of Marketing.

 

UPenn Misses Out?

One setback in hosting Philly’s Restaurant Week early this year may be the conflicting schedule with UPenn’s first day of classes. Classes will begin Wednesday, August 26, 2015, and many students are disappointed to miss out. If the UPenn population does wish to participate after Restaurant Week ends, all restaurants part of Cook N Solo (Zahav, Abe Fisher, etc), will offer a special menu at restaurant week prices to Penn students with their IDs from August 24 – 30, 2015.

 

Our Recommendations for Restaurant Week

What does this mean for the rest of us? Well it might be easier than ever to try all the restaurants on your list this year. With everyone down the shore and fewer people in town, now is you chance to take advantage of the next two weeks.  Which restaurant have you been dying to try? Here are some of our picks, in alphabetical order:

• Aldine

  Forget any of those mainstream Italian restaurants with the same old menu; this restaurant’s modern Italian-inspired menu is a breath of fresh air. Their potato gnocchi melt with each bite into the buttermilk-herbed broth and the savory chicken liver mousse with tart cherry is not to be missed.

• Abe Fisher

  Zahav’s sister restaurant featuring Eastern European and flavors of the Jewish diaspora will be offering their full menu during Restaurant Week. The best part of dining at this semifinalist James Beard Awards Best New Restaurant nominee is that if you can’t make it during the next two weeks, their prix fixe menu is only $5 more than the Restaurant Week price.

• Franky Bradley’s

  Walk in and find yourself in something like a dive bar from a Twin Peaks episode, but the food and bev programs speaks for itself. This eclectic hideaway is featuring classics country pâté and mud pie, but we’re most excited about their “French onion” pierogi and eggplant bolognese.

• Twisted Tail

  What we love about this Southern-inspired menu is the combination of classic and modern plates. A generous four-course menu instead of the usual three features classic fried chicken and for the more adventurous eaters, crispy pig ears. Be sure to check out this Headhouse Square resident.

Center City District Restaurant Week takes place from August 2 – 7 and 9 -14, 2015.  Participating restaurants offer a three-course dinner for $35, not including tax, alcohol, and gratuity.  Many will also have a three-course lunch for $20.
