With the roadblocks going up and Porta-Potties lining our streets, the final countdown to the papal visit has officially begun. While we all may be feeling a little claustrophobic already, there are plenty of wonderful bars and restaurants open over Pope-weekend that are ready and willing to help all of us stuck Philadelphians forget about all of the madness.
Philly.com is gathering a huge list of the local haunts that are warmly welcoming pilgrims and natives alike through their doors over the next few days of the so-called “Pope-ocalypse”. Our top picks include Hai Street Kitchen on Sansom Street in Center City, and Miles Table right by the Lombard-South stop(Although you’ll have to walk until SEPTA’s resurrection). Why these two? They fulfill the Holy Trinity of the Hungry: Cheap, fast, and delicious.
If you’re wanting more of an experience, feel free to check out all of the awesome sit-down and bar options, as well as all of the “papal specials”, that are listed. (Bonus: if you don’t see your city pick, you can just have it added.)
Happy wining and dining, Philly, and a warm welcome to Pope Francis!
Happy first day of fall! It is officially Pumpkinland time at Linvilla Orchards as we welcome in autumn after a long, hot summer. Linvilla is kicking off the season with some of the best family activities in all of Delaware County. Pick the perfect pumpkin with over 100 tons on display and try your skill at their apple slings and pumpkin ring toss! If you’re up for the challenge, don’t forget to stick around for the haybale and corn mazes, and then take a ride on one of Linvilla’s classic autumn hayrides through the orchards.
Check out the following events that are happening this fall:
Pumpkinland will be open from September until early November, so there’s no excuse for missing out! For more information on each event and for hayride times, visit www.linvilla.com. Linvilla Orchards is located at 137 Knowlton Rd, Media, PA, 19063.
September is our favorite month over at The Twisted Tail, and that’s because it consists of 30 days devoted solely to the celebration of our favorite booze. Starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, The Tail is ringing in Bourbon Heritage Month by throwing their second annual Whiskey Bonanza right in Headhouse Square. Folks attending can expect an evening abundant with libations, live music, Cheese E. Wagon food truck, and the company of fellow bourbon lovers. Most importantly, guests will stay sipping on over 60 varieties of the star beverage throughout the night, including names like Maker’s Mark, Whistle Pig, Basil Hayden, Jefferson Reserve and so much more.
