Don’t get stuck indoors this winter unless there’s an 18-hole mini golf course inside, too. Linvilla’s Indoor Mini Golf Course is an interactive and educational course created by The Academy of Natural Sciences. Open now through mid-March, kids and parents alike will have a blast putting for a hole in one while learning about the planet Earth.
Explore a tropical rainforest while experiencing the food chain. Learn about butterflies, bat sonar, dinosaurs and more! With different themed holes, Linvilla’s Indoor Mini Golf Course offers a wide variety of interesting facts, ranging from the way nature works to how to preserve the environment. Treat the kids to a game of mini-golf while sneaking in some education. Parents are encouraged to join in on the fun and test their own knowledge!
The exhibit is perfect for larger groups, as well. Book your son or daughter a memorable birthday party. Golf parties include pizza, birthday cakes and a whole lot of fun. Linvilla is the perfect place to say, “Happy Birthday” to a special boy or girl.
Group rates are also available for school field trips, church outings and scout adventures. Each child receives one round of golf (including ball & club rental), entrance into the playground, a souvenir magnet, and an educational kit. In past times they’ve been called pyes, and have been stuffed with meat. The Pilgrims cooked them because it helped to preserve the filling through the winter months. Modern pies include a variety of fillings from pecan or pumpkin to apple or blueberry. Pies became popular in America in the 1800s and now even have their own day! Linvilla Orchards is celebrating The American Pie Council’s National Pie Day today through Sunday, January 27!
There will be more than 40 different pies available during this event. Several variations of America’s favorite apple pie will be included, along with peach and other traditional fruit fillings. Numerous cream pies will also be presented. Come sample over forty-years of pie baking at Linvilla Orchards. As a special gift to visitors, Linvilla Orchards will be giving away a FREE Pumpkin Pie with the purchase of any other pie variety.

The Beard House will know who cut the cheese on Friday, February 8. That’s when Chef Patrick Feury of Nectar Restaurant in Berwyn will cook at the famous house in New York City with his usual passion for natural game, meat, fish, and poultry. Feury, who is especially interested in cheese, studied in Paris working with dairy farmers and later in a cheese cave at a fromagerie. More recently, he received his certification as an artesian cheese-maker. And because of his close ties with neighboring farmers in Chester County, he wants to ensure that the area will soon be recognized as a culinary promise land.
That’s the reason why Feury has invited his Chester County farmers to collaborate on a dinner at the Beard House. In addition, Chester Victory Brewing Company and J. Maki Winery will provide beverages for the occasion. Tickets cost $130 for James Beard Foundation members and $170 for non-members. To purchase a ticket or check out the menu, click on this link. http://www.jamesbeard.org/events/farmland-feast-020813.
For those unable to attend the Beard event, the chef will be recreating the dinner at Nectar. For details, call the restaurant at 610.725.9000. Nectar restaurant is a celestial blend of amazing food, stunning décor and an unwavering dedication to sustainability. With a focus on sustainable ingredients, the menu ranges from the freshest sushi, to organically raised poultry and produce, to locally produced fresh cheeses.
