Funky Lil’ Face-Lift

Get ready for some serious changes in the coming months at Pottstown’s Funky Lil’ Kitchen. The offbeat eatery that boasts seasonal, modern American cuisine is in the throws of some serious renovations. And all we can say is “wow.”

With the help of the uber-innovative Philadelphia design firm, Bahdeebahdu, FLK is beginning to look like a whole new place. Gone are the deep gray walls and minimalist lighting. Funky Lil’ Kitchen is now sporting light gray and metallic silver walls with green accents and new lighting in the form of silver metallic rondelets, fancy chandeliers and bare bulbs that are in Bahdeebahdu’s unique design aesthetic.

Large over-sized mirrors grace the walls and a silverware screen (yes, it is a screen made out of silverware) in front of the open kitchen gives guests a perfect view of Chef Michael Falcone cooking away. Diners can also expect new tables and chairs, tin ceilings, bar stool and window seating, zinc countertops on the bar, a fabulous pie plate wall installation (you have to see it to believe it) and lots of other unique touches that are undeniably funky.

And because Michael and his fiancé, Tonda Woodling are such dog lovers, look for a monthly rotating over-sized doggie photo by pet photographer Susan Dodd on the bathroom wall.

Keep checking our blog for renovation updates and to learn when the big unveiling of FLK’s new digs will be.

New Kid On The Block

Tommi Studio, Salon & Spa To Open In September

If you thought the 700 block of Chestnut Street couldn’t get any better, what with the plethora of high-end eateries and nighttime hot spots, (Chifa, Union Trust and Morimoto, to name a few), then watch out. A first-of-its-kind comprehensive photography studio, salon and spa, all under one roof, is gearing up to bring a little bit more glamour to this already classy stretch of Philadelphia.

This September, acclaimed photographer Tom Wong and his wife Nikki, will embark on this new business venture. They are opening the $5 million Tommi Studio, Salon and Spa, at 718 Chestnut Street, a four story, 12,000 sq. ft. showplace. This first for Philadelphia will offer a comprehensive, style-forward salon, spa and photography studio, all under one roof, featuring a full service celebrity styling salon and spa with wedding planning and event production services.  While this new endeavor will surely be the place for brides-to-be to go for help planning their big day, Tommi isn’t exclusively for brides. A la carte photography, salon and spa services are also available.

Need commercial photography and locations shots? Looking for family portraits? In need of a new stylist?  Want a manicure? A haircut? Tommi Studio, Salon & Spa will be open to the public by appointment. Make-up application, massage and facials are also available.
