Paws Up for Pet Appreciation Weekend

What a scene it’s going to be: Doggies on leashes with their people in tow, animal lovers sharing stories and advice, and pets playing games and making new furry friends. On Saturday and Sunday, April 14 and 15, Pet Valu presents Pet Appreciation Weekend (PAW), a celebration of our domestic critters and those who love them. There will be games, refreshments, and giveaways. It’s also an opportunity to raise money and supplies for animal charities. A portion of the proceeds from the weekend’s sales will go directly to local animal shelters.

Pet Valu sees this Pet Appreciation Weekend as a chance to build awareness and raise much-needed funds for local animal agencies and services. Last year, during Pet Valu’s annual Pet Appreciation Weekend, over 160 pets were adopted and $250,000 was donated to local shelters. Check out http://us.petvalu.com/ to find a Pet Valu location near you.

A good time for a beer!

All you beer lovers! Can you imagine a time when you weren’t able to sit back, relax and enjoy a tall glass of beer? The thought is scary, but in reality, prohibition did occur. But thanks to President Franklin Roosevelt, who on April 7, 1933,  signed an amendment that allowed the manufacture and sale of beer. This was the first step towards a complete repeal of prohibition that would later occur in December. Upon signing the amendment, Roosevelt remarked; “I think this would be a good time for a beer.”

Celebrate the “regained” freedom to drink beer for the American people 79 years ago at the recently opened Bierstube Tsingtau. With over 150 carefully-selected craft beers from one of Philadelphia’s most impressive and unique beer lists, Bierstube is a great spot to celebrate this day. Bierstube is open Tuesday through Saturday, 5 p.m. until 2 a.m. and is located at 206 Market St. Philadelphia, PA 19106. For more information call 215 922-2958 or visit www.MyBierstube.com.
