Yes, you heard right, Philadelphia is hosting the second annual festival dedicated to everyone’s favorite greasy breakfast meat — bacon!
This Friday, August 1st, the festival will kick off at 5pm right in the middle of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, otherwise known as The Oval. Free samples of Maple Bacon, Turkey Bacon, Chicken Bacon and Beef Bacon will be given out courtesy of Godshall’s Quality Meats. After munching on the free samples you can grab dinner from one of Philadelphia’s favorite food trucks that will be parked at The Oval. Make the tough decision between Sum Pig, Oink and Moo, Phoebe’s BBQ, Braz BQ, Chewys, and Undrgrnd Donuts.
At 6pm there will be a presentation by Chef Jack McDavid where he will be cooking up some of his favorite and very unique bacon dishes. There will be live music during the festival courtesy of DJ Apt One & lil’Dave. If that wasn’t enough excitement, The Franklin Institute will be “launching” a bacon space capsule modeled after Apollo 13.
The night will end with one of our country’s favorite type of bacon — Kevin Bacon. There will be a screening of the Kevin Bacon classic, Apollo 13, on the big screen around 9pm to conclude the bacon-filled fest.
