5 Places to Try in Celebration of National Happy Hour Day!

National Happy Hour Day is Thursday, November 12! Since a crowded bar might not be the most ideal place to celebrate, we thought we’d share a few of our favorite places to get beer, wine and cocktails to go instead. Whether you’re in Fishtown, University City or Rittenhouse Square, we’ve listed a few destinations that don’t disappoint…

If you’re looking to sample a new beer on tap or wine by the glass, Misconduct Tavern has you covered. Other than putting modern spins on classic comfort foods, this nautical-themed sports bar is also known for its well-stocked and extensive selection of drafts, IPAs, imports, wines and more to choose from – and they can all be found on the to-go menu. Misconduct’s Logan Square location is open at 11 a.m., and its Rittenhouse location is open at 11:30 am Wednesday through Sunday and at 4 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Searching for a unique cocktail experience? Check out Vietnam Restaurant in Chinatown and its partner location, Vietnam Café in University City. Both eateries offer beer and wine, but the highlight of Vietnam’s drink menu is by far its list of Polynesian cocktails, which come conveniently bottled if you’re ordering takeout. With names like the Scorpion, Bachelor’s Downfall or Flaming Volcano, these tropical creations will be sure to deliver on the flavor front. Vietnam Restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 221 N 11th St, and Vietnam Café is open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 816 S 47th St.

Mission Taqueria’s bottled margaritas in creative flavors like guava and mango pineapple are the highlight of its to-go drink menu, but the popular Center City spot also offers items like hibiscus sangria and Tecate, a Mexican beer, among a variety of nonalcoholic options. You can even order chili lime rimming salt to recreate the authentic margarita experience at home. Mission Taqueria is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 1516 Sansom St, right above the Oyster House.

Whether you’re thinking about trying a seasonal IPA or specialty cocktail, Garage definitely has something for everyone. This auto-themed bar’s impressive lineup of drinks spans two locations – be sure to check out both the Passyunk and Fishtown menus for exclusive items. Order up a variety of classic cocktails or try one of the bar’s popular Fun Bags – original creations served in drink pouches for your convenience. Garage Fishtown is located at 100 E Girard Ave, and Garage Passyunk is located at 1231 E Passyunk Ave. Both bars are open from 4 to 11 p.m.

Get fired up cause November is National Pepper Month!

As the weather keeps growing colder, it’s the perfect time to warm yourself up with some extra spicy food choices from the Philadelphia area. No matter what you’re craving to cure your pepper fix, there’s an option for you – from soups to sandwiches and our famous local favorite, the cheesesteak.

If you’re craving a peppery dish first thing in the morning or for a later brunch, check out the options at the South Street and Bok locations of Miles Table, a cozy family friendly eatery. Two breakfast favorites, the El Guapo Burrito and the Divorced Eggs, are topped with spicy pickled jalapenos and the brunch favorite Thai Chicken Sandwich is coated with a sweet chili sauce.

November is also the heart of the football season, and local favorite Misconduct Tavern has you covered for your pepper fix on game day. Grab a seat inside or watch the game at their outdoor tables and order up their delicious Bacon Burger, topped with a pepper & tomato relish, or a Grilled Chicken Sandwich, covered with pepper jack cheese and a fiery jalapeno salsa.

Craving a Philly Cheesesteak? Why not spice it up with two peppery cheesesteak choices from Cleavers right in the heart of Center City? Choose between the Zinger Steak, a ribeye cheesesteak with sharp provolone cheese and generously topped with house made long hots, and the Effin’ Hot Steak, a spicy-food-lover’s dream, covered with hot cherry pepper relish and a fiery Sriarcha aioli.

With the cold weather setting in nowadays, it’s the perfect time to warm up with some scrumptious soup from Vietnam Restaurant in Chinatown or Vietnam Cafe in University City. Try the spicy Beef and Chicken Lemongrass soups or any of the fantastic Pho options, all of which are garnished with hot peppers to really heat up your dish.

Cooking at home more often? Stop by Linvilla Orchards Farm Market and grab a bottle or two from the massive hot sauce section to spice up your favorite family dinners! Fresh hot peppers grown at Linvilla are still available too, so you can freshen and spice up your home cooking all at once.
